New Delhi, May 7 (ANI) — The Embassy of India in Beirut has facilitated the safe return of five Indian nationals from Lebanon, thanking Lebanese authorities for their cooperation in ensuring a smooth exit.
In a post on the embassy’s X account, officials said they had successfully arranged travel for the five individuals and expressed appreciation to local authorities for their support. The embassy reiterated its ongoing commitment to assist Indian citizens in Lebanon.
The recent facilitation follows earlier diplomatic engagement by Ambassador Noor Rahman Sheikh. On April 15 the ambassador met Major General Hassan Choucair, Director General of Lebanon’s General Security Department, to discuss cooperation on capacity building and measures to safeguard the welfare of the Indian community in Lebanon.
The embassy has been active in organizing evacuations and support for Indians in Lebanon this year. On March 11 Ambassador Sheikh saw off the first chartered repatriation flight, which returned 177 Indian nationals to Delhi after arrangements made by their employer. The mission says it will continue to provide consular assistance as needed.
The repatriations come against a backdrop of renewed violence in parts of Lebanon. Al Jazeera reported that Israeli air strikes in southern and eastern Lebanon have killed at least 13 people and injured more than a dozen, despite a ceasefire brokered last month. Local sources cited by media said an air strike on the town of Zellaya killed four people and injured three.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has said it struck a structure from which two armed Hezbollah operatives launched an anti-tank missile on May 5. IDF social media posts also reported dismantling weapons storage facilities, seizing explosive devices and anti-tank missiles, and striking several Hezbollah infrastructure sites in recent operations.
The Embassy of India in Beirut continues to monitor the situation and provide assistance to Indian nationals in Lebanon. This report is based on agency dispatches and official embassy posts.
