Tel Aviv [Israel], April 24 (ANI): The Israel Defense Forces said Friday they carried out airstrikes in southern Lebanon, hitting what they described as “militant structures” despite an announced ceasefire.
In a post on X, the Israeli Air Force stated that it struck military sites in the Khirbet Salam and Tulin areas of southern Lebanon, locations it said were used by the Hezbollah organization to plan attacks against IDF forces and the State of Israel. The Air Force added the strikes were in response to rocket fire launched by Hezbollah toward the Shlomi area the previous night.
The reported strikes come after former US President Donald Trump said Israel and Lebanon had agreed to extend their ceasefire by an additional three weeks following talks with senior officials from both countries. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said he had met with high-level Lebanese and Israeli representatives and that the leaders of both countries would visit Washington in the coming weeks. “They’ve agreed to an additional three weeks of, I guess, no firing — ceasefire — no more firing. Let’s see. We hope that happens. It’s not going to happen between them, but we still have Hezbollah to think about,” he said.
Trump also posted on Truth Social that the ceasefire would be extended by three weeks and that the United States would work with Lebanon to help protect it from Hezbollah, detailing a list of US officials involved in the Oval Office meeting.
US Vice President JD Vance called the three-week extension “a major, historic moment,” crediting Trump’s direct engagement for enabling the agreement.
