Tehran [Iran], May 1 (ANI): Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday accused the Pentagon of distorting the cost of the war with Iran, saying the conflict has cost the United States USD 100 billion.
In a post on X, Araghchi wrote: “The Pentagon is lying. Netanyahu’s gamble has directly cost America $100b so far, four times what is claimed. Indirect costs for U.S. taxpayers are FAR higher. Monthly bill for each American household is $500 and rising fast. Israel First always means America Last.”
Earlier, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf mocked US plans to blockade Iran, arguing the country’s borders are far longer than US coast-to-coast distances. In a post aimed at US commentator Pete Hegseth, Ghalibaf wrote that two walls—one from New York City to the West Coast and another from Los Angeles to the East Coast—would total 7,755 km, still about 1,000 km shorter than Iran’s borders, adding “Good luck blockading a country with those borders. P.S. For Pete Hegseth: 1 km = 0.62 mi.”
The remarks follow a heated exchange in which Hegseth told the House Armed Services Committee the US had spent $25 billion on the war with Iran, largely for munitions and equipment maintenance. Democratic leaders and several economists have called that figure a significant underestimation, suggesting the broader economic cost could range from USD 630 billion to USD 1 trillion.
Pentagon officials told Congress in March the war cost USD 11.3 billion in the first six days. That figure is also well below the USD 200 billion initially requested by the Trump administration for the conflict. (ANI)
