New Delhi, April 24, 2026 — India and the United Kingdom held a series of high-level security talks this week to assess and deepen their defence cooperation. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh met UK National Security Advisor Jonathan Nicholas Powell in New Delhi to exchange views on regional security developments and review progress under existing India-UK defence cooperation frameworks. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening strategic ties and enhancing practical collaboration.
The meeting followed earlier engagements in the capital. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Powell for discussions on regional and global security issues and on measures to deepen India-UK cooperation. Jaishankar described the talks as constructive and focused on areas of mutual concern.
Powell also held the annual India-UK Strategic Dialogue with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Officials said the talks were wide-ranging, covering ways to advance the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, strengthen defence and security cooperation, and exchange perspectives on regional and global challenges.
Separately, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan visited the United Kingdom and met his British counterpart, Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton, on April 22. The two chiefs reaffirmed their intent to work together on contemporary global challenges. Discussions during General Chauhan’s official visit addressed a spectrum of issues including global trade imbalances, emerging cyber threats, and cooperation to promote a peaceful and prosperous Indo-Pacific while harnessing rapid technological change.
The exchanges were highlighted in official posts on X by the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of External Affairs, and the HQ Integrated Defence Staff, which summarized the outcomes and reiterated both countries’ intent to expand defence ties and joint responses to shared security concerns.
Collectively, the meetings reflect a continuing effort by India and the UK to convert strategic alignment into deeper defence collaboration, joint planning, and operational engagement across areas such as cyber security, technology, and regional stability.
