New Delhi [India], April 25 (ANI): Todd McClay, New Zealand’s Minister for Trade and Investment, said Saturday that the bilateral relationship with India is the strongest he has experienced.
Speaking to ANI, McClay said New Zealand wants to make its relationship with India a strategic priority and that the two countries share a history while continuing to build ties. He expressed optimism about increased connectivity and tourism, saying he expects direct flights between India and New Zealand and that “many more people can come and visit for tourism.” He added that the countries are “about to sign a free trade agreement.”
New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon announced the signing of a Free Trade Agreement with India, tweeting that the FTA would be signed on Monday.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal welcomed McClay’s visit, calling the upcoming FTA signing a “new chapter” in India-New Zealand economic ties and a defining moment for the partnership.
On the ongoing tensions in West Asia, McClay told ANI, “We don’t support the war in Iran. We think that there should be discussions and negotiations. We’re very pleased with the negotiation. But we’re very concerned that Iran is looking to develop the ability to produce nuclear weapons. We support actions to stop that.” (ANI)
