New Delhi, April 29 — External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Ecuador’s Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld Rosero on Wednesday to explore ways to deepen bilateral ties and step up collaboration in multilateral settings. Jaishankar said India will work closely with Ecuador across international forums.
Posting on X, the minister welcomed Rosero on her first visit to India and said discussions covered expanded cooperation in trade, health, agriculture, digital initiatives and capacity building. He reiterated that both countries would coordinate more closely at multilateral fora.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also extended a warm welcome on Rosero’s arrival in New Delhi, saying the visit would strengthen India-Ecuador relations.
Rosero arrived early Wednesday for a three-day official visit focused on advancing bilateral engagement. After her meeting with Jaishankar she is scheduled to pay tribute at Rajghat by laying a wreath at Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial, and to hold talks with Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, and Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita.
The visit follows a diplomatic roadmap agreed last year and signals momentum toward negotiating a formal trade agreement, with Quito prioritizing three key pillars for cooperation.
