Amritsar, May 5, 2026 — In a humanitarian move, the central government repatriated four Pakistani civilian prisoners to Pakistan through the Attari-Wagah border after they completed their sentences and all legal formalities.
The four released men were identified as Mohammad Irfan, 40, of Sahiwal; Mohammad Raza, 44, of Sialkot; Mohammad Hamza; and Husnain. Officials said one of the prisoners had spent nearly 10 years in jail, while the others served terms ranging from about six months to a year.
Under tight police security, the men were brought to the border where authorities completed documentation and verification procedures before handing them over to Pakistani officials.
Speaking after his release, Hamza said he had inadvertently crossed the border while intoxicated, which led to his arrest. He said he spent more than a year in jail and that his family had been unaware of his whereabouts during that period.
The returnees expressed relief and happiness at being reunited with their countrymen and described the move as a humanitarian gesture. They also appealed to young people to avoid drugs, warning that substance abuse can ruin lives.
Officials reiterated that the repatriation followed completion of all required legal procedures and formalities before transfer to Pakistani authorities.
