Karachi/Balochistan, April 22 (ANI) — Allegations that a Baloch woman was taken in a late-night operation in Karachi have reignited concerns about enforced disappearances of Baloch women, activists say, and are being described as part of an expanding, deliberate pattern. According to The Balochistan Post, the woman has been identified as Haseena Baloch, a housewife and mother from Awaran district in Balochistan.
Dr Sabiha Baloch of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) told reporters Haseena was seized from her home in the Naval area of Karachi and that her family has received no information about her whereabouts or condition. Dr Sabiha characterized the case not as isolated but as one element of a systematic practice she and others say targets Baloch women and aims to intimidate communities.
Activists argue that enforced disappearances violate international law and amount to crimes against humanity when carried out as part of a widespread or systematic attack. Dr Sabiha said any statements obtained from people held in secret detention are legally unreliable and likely coerced, and she accused authorities of using coordinated messaging to deflect criticism.
The Baloch Women Forum (BWF) echoed those concerns, saying Haseena was forcibly disappeared by Pakistani forces and criticizing the lack of due process and transparency. The forum warned the pattern marks a worrying escalation, with women increasingly singled out, and described the prolonged anguish families face when loved ones vanish and no accountability follows.
Both Dr Sabiha and the BWF have demanded that authorities immediately disclose Haseena Baloch’s whereabouts and secure her unconditional release, while urging full compliance with legal norms and international obligations, The Balochistan Post reported.
