New Delhi, May 13 (ANI) — Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, said the security situation in the Strait of Hormuz would improve once peace is established in the region.
Speaking to ANI, Gharibabadi argued that restored peace would bring greater transparency and fewer discrepancies, adding that Iran would act within international law. He said that with peace, the strait would be safer and more secure than before.
Gharibabadi also criticized US diplomacy, saying the United States was not engaging in serious diplomatic efforts. He asserted that Iran does not possess what he called sophisticated military equipment and contended that US and Israeli forces have been countered by Iranian missile capabilities.
On the sidelines of BRICS-related discussions, Gharibabadi said Iran supports India’s chairmanship of BRICS and is in favor of producing a BRICS declaration. He said Tehran wants the India-hosted meetings to succeed and does not want the grouping to appear divided.
He accused a single neighboring country of pushing for a formal condemnation of Iran for alleged attacks on neighbors. Gharibabadi denied that Iran has attacked neighbouring states, saying those countries have allowed territories to be used by the US from which, he claimed, thousands of attacks on Iran have been launched. He added that Tehran has compiled a 500-page dossier documenting those incidents for the United Nations and said such actions are unacceptable.
Last month in New Delhi, BRICS deputy foreign ministers and special envoys met to discuss the Middle East and North Africa. Due to a lack of consensus, only a Chair’s Summary was issued after the meeting. The summary said members expressed deep concern over recent developments in the Middle East and offered a range of views and assessments.
