New Delhi, May 5 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the recent strikes on civilian infrastructure in Fujairah and affirmed India’s close ties and support for the United Arab Emirates after three Indian nationals were reported injured. Fujairah, on the UAE’s eastern coast, is a strategic energy and maritime hub that provides an alternate route for oil shipments bypassing the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on X, the prime minister said he ‘strongly condemn[ed] the attacks on the UAE that resulted in injuries to three Indian nationals,’ calling attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure unacceptable. He added that ‘India stands in firm solidarity with the UAE’ and urged that disputes be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. Modi also emphasized the importance of secure navigation through the Strait of Hormuz for regional stability and global energy security.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated India’s stance, saying attacks on innocent civilians must stop and that India favors diplomatic measures to restore peace in West Asia. He called for free and unimpeded navigation and commerce through the Strait of Hormuz in line with international law and said India is prepared to support efforts aimed at a peaceful resolution.
The Indian Embassy in the UAE confirmed three Indian nationals were injured in the strikes and said officials are coordinating with local authorities to ensure they receive appropriate medical care and welfare support. Reports indicated the injuries were moderate and resulted from a fire sparked by strikes in the Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone (FOIZ).
The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs attributed the strikes to ‘renewed unprovoked Iranian aggression,’ alleging the use of drones and missiles against civilian sites and calling the actions a violation of international law and the UN Charter. The ministry said the UAE reserves the right to respond to protect its sovereignty and held Tehran fully responsible for the incident and its consequences.
The UAE Ministry of Defence reported detecting four cruise missiles launched from Iran targeting several locations and said loud sounds heard across the region were tied to successful interceptions. The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) posted an advisory on X noting that air-defence systems were responding, urging people to shelter, follow official updates, and avoid approaching or handling any fragments that fell from the sky so authorities could assess them safely.
