New Delhi [India], May 1 (ANI): Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Friday received a farewell call from Nepal’s outgoing Ambassador to India, Dr. Shankar Prasad Sharma, in the national capital, during which both sides reviewed the long-standing bilateral partnership.
According to a post on X by the Ministry of External Affairs, Misri reaffirmed India’s commitment to further strengthen the multifaceted and time-tested ties with Nepal and thanked Dr. Sharma for his contributions towards advancing India-Nepal relations.
Dr. Sharma served as Nepal’s Ambassador to India from 2022 to 2024. A seasoned economist and diplomat, he was Nepal’s Ambassador to the United States from 2009 to 2014. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Hawaii and has had a distinguished career in government service, academia and international economic research.
Earlier in his career, Sharma was Vice-Chairman of Nepal’s National Planning Commission from 2002 to 2006 and had been a member of the Commission in 1997. He has also served as Senior Economic Advisor in Nepal’s Ministry of Finance and as Senior Economist (Fellow) at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore, and taught economics at the Centre for Economic Development and Administration at Tribhuvan University.
Nepal shares borders with five Indian states — Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. India and Nepal have deep-rooted civilisational and cultural ties, reflected in strong people-to-people connections, and Nepal remains a key priority partner for India under its “Neighbourhood First” policy.
