Balochistan [Pakistan], April 22 (ANI): A disturbing case from Pakistan has renewed concerns over enforced disappearances, especially of Baloch women, with activists saying it reflects a growing, deliberate pattern. A woman identified as Haseena Baloch, originally from Awaran district in Balochistan, was reportedly taken from her home in Karachi, according to The Balochistan Post.
Dr Sabiha Baloch, a prominent member of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), told reporters that Haseena, a housewife and mother, was seized in a late-night operation in Karachi’s Naval area. Her family has since received no information about her whereabouts or condition.
Dr Sabiha described the incident as part of a wider, systematic trend rather than an isolated case, alleging that enforced disappearances of Baloch women are increasingly used as a tool of intimidation and amount to a “deliberate policy.” She warned that such acts violate international law, noting that enforced disappearances are recognised as crimes against humanity, and argued that any statements obtained during secret detention lack legal credibility and are coerced. She also accused authorities of using coordinated propaganda to deflect criticism of these practices.
The Baloch Women Forum (BWF) echoed these concerns, saying Haseena had been forcibly disappeared by Pakistani forces and highlighting the absence of due process and transparency. The group warned that the trend represents a worrying escalation, with women increasingly becoming targets, The Balochistan Post reported.
The forum said these incidents leave families in prolonged distress, grappling with uncertainty and a lack of accountability. Dr Sabiha and the BWF have demanded that authorities immediately reveal Haseena Baloch’s whereabouts and secure her unconditional release, and they have urged compliance with legal norms, according to The Balochistan Post.
