Five men of Indian origin have been charged after police recovered a trailer containing cannabis products valued at more than $2 million, along with two illegal firearms.
York Regional Police said the arrests were made by the Auto Cargo Theft Unit (ACTU) after investigators located the trailer on April 15 near McLaughlin Road and Highway 401 in Mississauga. The trailer had been reported stolen from the Niagara Region and was carrying a large quantity of cannabis products intended for delivery to multiple dispensaries when it was taken.
The accused are identified as Manveer Singh, 21; Sarbjeet Singh, 32; Dilkhab Singh, 21; Jaiskavan Malhi, 23 — all residents of Brampton — and Karan Kumar, 25, of Hamilton. Police observed individuals near the recovered trailer who were later linked to the theft and took five suspects into custody. Two firearms were seized during searches.
York Regional Police have released photographs of the accused and said there may be additional victims involved in the incident as the investigation continues.
