Tokyo [Japan], February 27 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made his first visit to Japan to expand industrial relations and human resource exchange. He was welcomed by members of the Japan-India Governors’ Network for Friendship and Exchange, led by Kotaro Nagasaki, Governor of Yamanashi, and met representatives of seven private companies who outlined their contributions and requirements for investment in Uttar Pradesh.
Adityanath presented Uttar Pradesh’s strengths in detail to the visiting Japanese executives. He said the state has a population of 250 million, half of whom are young and part of the current labour force, offering significant investment potential. He highlighted infrastructure developments—covering 55% of India’s highways, extensive railway and metro operations, and multiple airports including the upcoming Noida International Airport. He noted the new rapid transit between Meerut and Delhi reduces travel time from three hours to 50 minutes, improving logistics and transport for various products.
On agriculture, he said Uttar Pradesh accounts for 11% of India’s agricultural land and produces 21% of the country’s grain, calling it an “Indian Food Basket.” He added there is ample land available to build large industrial parks. Addressing other needs, he pointed to the demand for effective waste treatment and identified opportunities in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, dairy farming, and hydrogen energy. He also mentioned a vibrant startup ecosystem with more than 20,000 startups, including around 10,000 women leaders.
Yamanashi Governor Kotaro Nagasaki welcomed Adityanath’s visit, saying Yamanashi will serve as a gateway connecting Uttar Pradesh with eight other prefectures and that Japanese companies have strong interest in collaboration.
Japanese firms outlined their areas of collaboration and needs:
– Kanadevia Corp.: Expertise in electricity generation from waste, biogas, water treatment and hydrogen supply chain; aims to contribute to a cleaner environment in Uttar Pradesh.
– KOSE Corp.: A leading cosmetics brand active in India since 2013 through the local skincare brand “Spawake”; highlighted the large Indian cosmetics market and the need for OEM production and local sourcing of materials.
– KYOWA Leather Cloth Co.: A top producer of artificial leather for mobility, ranked first in Japan and second globally; established a local subsidiary in 2024 and plans a production facility near Noida to meet anticipated growth in Indian car production.
– SHIMIZU Corp.: Present in India since 2011 with contributions to ports, subways and production facilities; seeks to expand business in northern India.
– Sumitomo Mitsui FGG: With around 1,000 financial service bases, aims to expand services to Japanese companies operating in India.

Indian consultant Neerendra Upadhyaya praised the rapid progress since the December 2024 MOU between Uttar Pradesh and Yamanashi Prefecture, calling the collaboration among nine governors a strong gateway and a clear roadmap for mutual benefit.
The delegation’s exchanges and the convincing presentation by the Uttar Pradesh chief minister energized Japanese prefectures and private companies, marking a step toward a stronger, long-lasting India–Japan partnership. (ANI)
