Beijing, May 3 — India’s ambassador-designate to China, Vikram Doraiswami, arrived in Beijing on May 3 and was formally received by Charge d’Affaires Angeline Premalatha and Li Jianbo, Deputy Director of the Asia Department at China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indian Embassy said in a social media post.
The embassy welcomed Doraiswami on his arrival in the Chinese capital. He was also warmly received on Saturday by Consul General Pratik Mathur upon landing at Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport.
Earlier this week Doraiswami received his credentials from President Droupadi Murmu, confirming his assignment as India’s ambassador to the People’s Republic of China.
On Thursday, Doraiswami held discussions with Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi. The interaction focused on current geostrategic issues, bilateral engagement and measures to strengthen existing mechanisms amid sensitivities in India‑China ties, the ADGPI said.
The visits and meetings take place against a backdrop of broader engagement between the two countries. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met China’s Defence Minister Admiral Dong Jun during the SCO Defence Ministers’ Meeting in Bishkek. Meanwhile, MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George held talks with China’s Special Envoy for Climate Change Liu Zhenmin on the global climate agenda. Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India is ready to be proactive in advancing global climate action, including through the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement.
Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong underscored that Beijing values India’s role as the rotating BRICS president. He noted that China’s special envoy on the Middle East, Zhai Jun, met India’s MEA Secretary (South) Neena Malhotra and said the two sides maintain communications on major international and regional issues. Xu expressed hope that BRICS consultations on Middle East affairs will offer a clear, constructive message for regional peace and stability.
These diplomatic exchanges reflect continued dialogue and efforts to manage and deepen India‑China engagement across security, climate and multilateral agendas.
