New Delhi [India], March 28 (ANI): Former Indian diplomat Veena Sikri said there is broad international regard and respect for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting his ability to engage with all sides of the political spectrum.
Speaking to ANI about the Middle East situation, Sikri noted that even amid the Iran-Israel-USA tensions, Modi has been in contact with leaders across the conflict, including the President of Iran, the President of the UAE, and former US President Donald Trump. “The world over, there’s a great regard and respect for Prime Minister Modi and his ability to talk to all the people on all sides of the political spectrum and to get their support,” she said.
On US-Iran communications, Sikri commented on President Trump’s remark that “Iran is begging to make a deal,” saying the issue is complex. She observed that Iran officially maintains there are no talks with the US, while speculation persists that Pakistan is relaying messages. “Pakistan is not a mediator in any way. But they are passing messages that President Trump has sent his 15-point plan… Iran has rejected that plan, as they have their own plan,” she added.
Foreign affairs expert Robinder Sachdev said Trump respects strength, quick decision-making, and leaders who follow through, traits he sees in Modi. Sachdev noted that after a phone call between Trump and Modi about global issues and the Gulf conflict, Trump’s expectations include securing the best trade deal for the US once current interim tariffs end, and encouraging India to purchase more American crude oil and LNG while also diversifying with Russian supplies.
Separately, a shipment of 47,000 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) arrived at the Vadinar Terminal of DPA Kandla in Jamnagar, Gujarat, on Saturday. (ANI)
