New Delhi — India expects a US delegation to travel to the country for the next round of trade negotiations, though specific dates have not yet been set, a government official said on Monday.
Indian officials visited Washington, DC, in April for in-person meetings with their US counterparts to work out details of an interim agreement and to advance discussions under the broader India‑US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA).
The official said the next step will be for the US team to come to India, but added that scheduling is still under discussion.
Following the April meetings, both sides agreed to remain engaged to maintain momentum in the talks. In recent discussions, officials addressed a range of issues including market access, non‑tariff measures, technical barriers to trade, customs and trade facilitation, investment promotion, alignment on economic security, and digital trade.
On February 7, India and the United States issued a joint statement that finalized a framework for an interim trade agreement aimed at reciprocal, mutually beneficial trade. That framework also reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to continue negotiations on the broader BTA.
