Washington DC [US], March 27 (ANI): As part of the country’s 250th anniversary celebrations, the US Treasury Department announced on Thursday that President Donald Trump’s signature will appear on future US paper currency alongside Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent.
The Treasury’s official statement on its website said, “In honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump’s signature will appear on future U.S. paper currency along with the Secretary of the Treasury, marking the first time in history for a sitting president.”
Secretary Bessent said the move recognizes the country’s historic achievements and credited Trump with fiscal strength, economic growth and enduring dollar dominance. “Under President Trump’s leadership, we are on a path toward unprecedented economic growth, lasting dollar dominance, and fiscal strength and stability,” he said. “There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald J. Trump than U.S dollar bills bearing his name, and it is only appropriate that this historic currency be issued at the Semiquincentennial.”
Treasurer Brandon Beach added, “As the 250th anniversary of our great nation approaches, American currency will continue to stand as a symbol of prosperity, strength, and the unshakable spirit of the American people under President Trump’s leadership.” He further said printing the president’s signature on currency is “not only appropriate, but also well deserved.”
In a tweet, the U.S. Treasurer said: “In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, President Donald J. Trump’s signature alongside @SecScottBessent’s will soon appear on U.S. currency, marking a first in history, and symbolizes @POTUS’ leadership and dedication to our great nation will carry a lasting impact.…” — U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach (@TreasurerBeach) March 26, 2026
Previously, in October, US Treasurer Brandon Breach had shared drafts of a one-dollar coin for America’s 250th anniversary featuring Trump as the insignia, with “Liberty” on one side and “Fight, Fight, Fight” on the other. He tweeted those first drafts honoring America’s 250th and the president, noting more would be shared after a government shutdown. — U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach (@TreasurerBeach) October 3, 2025
CNN reported that Trump’s handpicked Commission of Fine Arts earlier approved a large commemorative gold coin depicting the president standing with his fists on a desk and is also reviewing a proposed $1 coin featuring Trump. CNN noted legal questions because US law prohibits showing a sitting or living former president on currency; a president may be featured on a coin no sooner than two years after their death, though sitting presidents are not barred from appearing on commemorative coins. This has not been done since President Calvin Coolidge in 1926.
According to CNN, Democratic lawmakers have introduced legislation to bar any living or sitting president from being featured on US currency. (ANI)
