Bannu, Pakistan — At least 15 police personnel were killed and three others wounded after a suicide bomber drove an explosives-laden vehicle into the Fateh Khel police checkpoint in Bannu late Saturday night, officials told news agencies. The incident was reported on May 10, 2026.
The blast obliterated the checkpoint and left several officers trapped beneath the rubble. Bannu Deputy Inspector General Sajjad Khan said the explosion caused severe destruction at the post and rescue teams worked through the night to recover victims and survivors. Three officers were pulled alive from the collapsed structure and taken for treatment.
Authorities released the names of the slain officers as Rehmat Ayaz, Sanaullah, Niaz Ali, Habib, Saadullah Jan, Kamran (son of Khan Sikandar), another officer named Kamran, Noorullah, Abid Jani, Imran, Kaleemullah, Sadiqullah, Munir Alam Khan, Rahatullah Khan and Farooq. The injured were identified as Mujrim Feroz, Hayatullah and Qadarullah. DIG Sajjad Khan visited the District Headquarters Hospital in Bannu to review care being provided to the wounded.
Witnesses and officials said the explosion was so powerful it was audible across the district and caused substantial damage to nearby homes and civilian buildings, with some roofs collapsing. Rescue operations were complicated by darkness and concerns about possible follow-up militant ambushes against responders and reinforcements.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi strongly condemned the attack in a statement issued after the blast.
Separately, the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) recently claimed responsibility for multiple operations across Balochistan, saying its fighters carried out attacks in Kharan, Washuk, Awaran, Kech and Mastung that it alleges killed 10 security personnel and four individuals it described as state agents. The group claimed assaults on Frontier Corps posts, military camps, a convoy and personnel guarding a road construction company, and said weapons and surveillance equipment were seized or destroyed. The BLF also said its fighters used rockets and grenade launchers in a May 3 attack on an FC checkpoint on Gazi Road in Kharan; the group alleged Pakistani forces then fired on nearby civilians and attempted to pursue attackers with quadcopters.
