New Delhi [India], December 2 (ANI): Russia has reiterated that its defence partnership with India remains strategic and is steadily moving toward deeper technological and industrial collaboration, Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said ahead of President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India. Manturov said joint development, co-production and localisation have become the core pillars of the relationship.
He highlighted that Russia continues to be one of India’s most important defence partners, noting that over the past decade Moscow has regularly supplied more than 30 per cent of India’s total defence procurements. “The military-technical cooperation between our countries is of strategic importance, strengthening and developing each year,” he said.
Manturov added that the partnership has shifted from simple supply contracts to long-term technological cooperation, including projects aligned with the ‘Make in India’ initiative. On the S-400 air-defence system, he affirmed the delivery schedule remains on track. “With regard to the supply of S-400 ‘Triumph’ long-range anti-aircraft missile systems, the contract is executed within the timeframes agreed upon by the parties,” Manturov said.
Russia has been a longstanding partner of India, and the bilateral relationship has been a key pillar of India’s foreign policy. Since the 2000 “Declaration on the India-Russia Strategic Partnership” signed during President Putin’s visit, ties have deepened across political, security, defence, trade, science and cultural domains. During President Putin’s visit in December 2010, the partnership was elevated to a “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership,” further consolidating multi-dimensional cooperation between the two countries.
