Seoul [South Korea], December 13 (ANI/WAM): South Korea plans to launch a lunar communication orbiter in 2029 and an unmanned lunar lander in 2032, KASA head Yoon Young-bin said.
Yoon unveiled the roadmap during a policy briefing to President Lee Jae Myung in Sejong, outlining steps to strengthen national space capabilities.
He said the 2029 orbiter will be launched on the domestically developed Nuri rocket. Last month, South Korea completed Nuri’s fourth launch, placing 13 satellites into orbit.
The orbiter will secure deep-space communications technology, necessary groundwork for the 2032 lander, because direct communication from the Moon’s far side to Earth is impossible.
KASA aims for at least one Nuri launch per year through 2032 to raise the rocket’s success rate above 90 percent, and plans to develop a reusable next-generation launch vehicle by 2035. (ANI/WAM)
