Six children were among nine people killed in cross-border firing and mortar shelling incidents in Pakistan’s Bajaur district over the past two months, an official report said on Friday.
The Deputy Commissioner of Bajaur released a detailed list of casualties attributing the attacks to Afghan forces in border areas. According to the list, nine people were killed in March and April, including three women and six children. Several others were injured.
The district administration said the incidents occurred in frontier areas of Mamond and Salarzai in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Images and videos of affected families have circulated, with residents reporting fear and tension and condemning what they say is the targeting of civilians.
Officials said Pakistan’s security forces responded by targeting alleged firing points and militant positions across the border, taking measures to avoid civilian casualties. Similar incidents have been reported previously in border areas of Khyber, Kurram, and Waziristan, resulting in repeated loss of life.
