Tehran [Iran], April 4 (ANI): A projectile struck close to the perimeter of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant on Saturday morning, killing one security personnel, the Tasnim news agency reported.
Tasnim said the main sections of the plant were not damaged, though an auxiliary building sustained damage. Production was reported to be unaffected, according to the agency.
Bushehr, on the Persian Gulf in southern Iran, is the country’s first commercial nuclear power station.
On Thursday, US President Donald Trump warned Iran of possible strikes on its infrastructure, including bridges and electric power plants, writing on Truth Social that the US military “hasn’t even started destroying what’s left in Iran.”
The post signalled a potential escalation in Operation Epic Fury, which began on February 28. Trump wrote: “Our Military, the greatest and most powerful (by far!) anywhere in the World, hasn’t even started destroying what’s left in Iran. Bridges next, then Electric Power Plants! New Regime leadership knows what has to be done, and has to be done, FAST! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
Trump has also threatened to bomb Iran “back to the Stone Ages” if necessary.
Separately, Trump told NBC News that the destruction of an American military aircraft would not affect diplomatic talks with Iran, saying, “No, not at all. No, it’s war. We’re in war.” He declined to provide details about “search-and-rescue efforts” and criticised media coverage of the “complex and active military operation.”
In response to the US rhetoric, Iran’s central military headquarters issued a warning to the United States and its regional partners, state broadcaster Press TV reported. Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said early Saturday that Iran could carry out devastating strikes against American and Israeli assets and against the infrastructure of countries hosting US bases.
Press TV said the warning was a direct response to Trump’s threats to target bridges, power plants and other civilian infrastructure, and that Iran’s military command vowed to respond with overwhelming force should those threats be acted upon.
“In response to the US President’s inflammatory rhetoric and his repeated threats regarding the destruction of bridges, power plants, and Iran’s electricity and energy infrastructure, we warn once again,” the spokesperson said. (ANI)
