The Prime Minister-led Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has called for an early cessation of hostilities in the West Asia crisis and urged a return to dialogue and diplomacy.
Meeting under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s chairmanship, the CCS reviewed the evolving situation following air strikes in Iran on February 28 and the subsequent escalation, including attacks in several Gulf countries. The committee expressed serious concern for the safety and security of the large Indian expatriate community in the region.
Ministers and officials at the meeting included Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. The CCS examined difficulties faced by Indian travellers transiting the region and students scheduled to appear for examinations, as well as wider implications for regional security and economic and commercial activities.
The CCS directed all concerned departments to take necessary and feasible measures to assist Indian nationals affected by the developments and reiterated the importance of an early cessation of hostilities and a return to dialogue and diplomacy.
