Balochistan [Pakistan], April 2 (ANI): Three members of a single family, including a woman and a 12-year-old girl, were killed and several others injured after a mortar shell struck a residential area in Awaran district late at night. The blast occurred in the Cheri Malar locality of Kolwah, The Balochistan Post reported.
Residents accused Pakistani security forces of firing the mortar. The dead were identified as Muhammad Omar, his wife Faiza, and their daughter. At least three other relatives were wounded in the explosion, including Omar’s daughter-in-law, Fahmida, who was among those rushed to a nearby medical facility. Their current medical condition remains unclear.
Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as neighbours tried to pull victims from the rubble. Homes nearby sustained visible damage, and panic spread through the community after the powerful blast.
The incident comes amid longstanding tensions in Balochistan, where military operations have repeatedly been associated with civilian casualties. Local communities and observers have frequently raised concerns about collateral damage and a lack of accountability, the report noted.
Pakistani authorities have not yet issued a statement addressing the allegations or explaining the circumstances of the shelling, an absence that has heightened local suspicion and criticism. Human rights organisations have urged stronger protections for civilians and warned of the risks of using heavy weapons in populated areas. (ANI)
