Islamabad — Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has been diagnosed with a hairline fracture in his shoulder after slipping and falling during the reception for Egypt’s foreign minister, his son said.
The incident occurred Sunday during a quadrilateral summit of the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Egypt, convened to discuss the West Asia conflict. Dar slipped while calling Egypt’s Badr Abdelatty to the stage at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Cameras captured him falling, then getting up and joining his guest for a ceremonial photo.
Dar showed no immediate signs of injury, but his son Ali Dar said he had been taking painkillers to manage discomfort and only agreed to a medical checkup late that night. Ali Dar posted on X that despite the injury Dar “completed all highly important meetings throughout the day on painkillers, Alhamdulillah.” Around 9 pm, following the recording of an official statement, a family-insisted medical examination was carried out.
X-rays were largely normal, but doctors found a hairline fracture in the shoulder. Ali Dar said the pain will be managed over the coming days with medication and precautionary measures.
Ishaq Dar is a senior member of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government and remains active on domestic and international fronts. He is also a close associate of former three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif and related by marriage: Dar’s son is married to Nawaz Sharif’s daughter. A chartered accountant by training, Dar has served multiple times as finance minister in previous Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) governments.
