New York, April 25 — Sibi George, Secretary (West) in India’s Ministry of External Affairs, met Annalena Baerbock, President of the United Nations General Assembly, on Saturday to discuss cooperation in the global fight against terrorism and related international priorities. Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on X that their talks covered a range of issues including peace and security, development, reformed multilateralism and counter‑terrorism.
The meeting followed a Friday discussion between George and Alexandre Zouev, Acting Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism, which focused on India’s close cooperation with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism. George also held separate talks with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on key global matters and UN reform. According to Jaiswal, George emphasized India’s commitment to multilateralism and exchanged views on strengthening the UN and amplifying the voice of the Global South — a priority India advances through mechanisms such as the India–UN Development Partnership Fund.
Earlier this month, on April 20 (local time), India pressed for long-pending reforms of the United Nations Security Council during Intergovernmental Negotiations at the UN. The meetings in New York form part of India’s ongoing engagement with UN partners on security, development and institutional reform, the MEA said.
