Yukon [Canada], December 7 (ANI): A magnitude 7.0 earthquake was recorded near the Yukon–Alaska border Saturday afternoon, Earthquakes Canada reported. The quake struck at a depth of five kilometres, CBC said.
Yukon Highways and Public Works posted on social media that the South Klondike Highway will be closed from kilometre 24 to kilometre 106 starting at 5 pm and will remain closed overnight due to increased avalanche conditions. The road will be reassessed in the morning, with updates to be shared online.
Professor Edwin Nissen of the University of Victoria’s Earth and Ocean Sciences department told CBC that earthquakes have occurred in the same area in 1899, 1979, 2002 and 2017.
No injuries or damage have been reported so far. (ANI)
