New Delhi, April 23 — External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said the 4th India-Africa Forum Summit, set for May 28–31, will chart a forward-looking course for India-Africa relations as he joined African ambassadors to unveil the summit’s logo, theme and website.
In a post on X, Jaishankar described the upcoming summit as an opportunity to “shape the next phase” of ties — one that is more ambitious, inclusive and oriented toward the future. He said the gathering will facilitate the exchange of best practices, the sharing of successful models and discussions of shared challenges.
Jaishankar emphasized India’s extensive development partnerships and capacity-building efforts in Africa, which he said are driven by African priorities and local ownership. He noted that bilateral engagement is expanding into digital technologies, fintech and innovation, which are transforming economies across the continent.
On sustainability, the minister highlighted India’s collaboration with African partners through initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance, the Global Biofuels Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and the International Big Cat Alliance.
Reiterating India’s backing for a stronger African role on the world stage, Jaishankar pointed to the African Union’s inclusion in the G20 during India’s 2023 presidency as an example of increased recognition. He also cited India’s growing diplomatic footprint in Africa as evidence of long-term commitment: India has recently opened 17 new missions there, bringing the total to 46.
Recalling historical bonds, Jaishankar spoke of a shared legacy of struggle, solidarity and common aspirations that underpins India-Africa relations. He noted the steady expansion of high-level interactions, saying he has visited more than 20 African countries and that Ministers of State have traveled even more frequently.
Describing the moment as “a season of renewal and of fresh beginnings,” Jaishankar called the summit the next chapter in an enduring partnership between India and Africa.
