Tel Aviv, February 28 (ANI): Israel launched a preventive missile attack against Iran on Saturday, TPS reported. Citizens were urged to seek shelter after the IDF said sirens were sounded nationwide as a proactive alert for possible incoming missiles.
Defence Minister Israel Katz said the preemptive strikes aimed to remove threats to the country. The IDF called on the public to stay close to protected spaces.
A Jerusalem Post security source told Walla that the United States was also involved in the strikes. An Iranian official confirmed to Reuters that Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was not in Tehran and had been moved to a “secure location.”
Following a situational assessment, the IDF announced immediate changes to Home Front Command guidelines, shifting all areas from Full Activity to Essential Activity. The guidelines prohibit educational activities, gatherings, and workplaces except for essential sectors.
Iranian state media reported explosions in Tehran. Defence Minister Katz declared an immediate nationwide special state of emergency under Israel’s Civil Defense Law, warning that a missile and drone attack against Israeli territory and its civilian population was expected imminently.
Mobile phone services were cut in parts of eastern and western Tehran, and internet connectivity weakened in some areas, Iranian media said.
This follows comments by US President Donald Trump on Friday, calling Iran “very difficult” and “very dangerous” as the United States considers its next steps in nuclear negotiations, while expressing a preference for a peaceful resolution despite rising military tensions. The third round of negotiations between Iran and the United States took place in Geneva on Thursday, with another round scheduled for today.
Addressing a gathering in Texas, Trump said, “We have a big decision to make. You know that. Not easy. We have a very big decision to make. We have a country that’s been for 47 years blowing people’s legs off, arms off, and the face. They’ve been knocking out ships, killing people. Not only Americans, but lots of people.” He added any deal with Tehran must be “meaningful”. (ANI)
