Tehran [Iran], April 5 (ANI): The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Sunday said it had shot down a US aircraft taking part in the rescue operation for a missing F-15 crew member. Iran’s Fars news agency, cited by Al Jazeera, published a photograph showing smoke rising from a field.
The claim came after former US President Donald Trump confirmed the military had rescued the second F-15 crew member who went missing after Iran downed the jet amid the wider West Asia conflict. In a post on Truth Social, Trump called the mission “one of the most daring Search and Rescue Operations in US History” and said, “We got him!” He identified the rescued individual as a respected colonel, said the officer was injured but would be fine, and emphasized that the US would “not leave a warfighter behind.”
Trump wrote that, at his direction, the US military sent “dozens of aircraft, armed with the most lethal weapons in the World” for the second rescue mission after local Iranian groups targeted two Black Hawk helicopters. He added that both pilots had been rescued separately from deep in enemy territory and asserted that the operations proved US air dominance, noting no US personnel were killed or wounded.
Both the US and Iran conducted search operations for the missing crew member. During searches, Iranian tribesmen reportedly opened fire on American helicopters, according to CNN.
