IndiGo has launched a daily non-stop flight between Kolkata and Shanghai from March 29, expanding its international network and strengthening air links between India and China as demand for business and leisure travel rises. The new route is expected to ease passenger movement and support growing trade ties between the two economies.
The service builds on IndiGo’s China footprint after restoring Kolkata–Guangzhou flights and starting services from Delhi. With the addition, the airline now operates 21 weekly flights to mainland China. The Kolkata–Shanghai service will use the fuel-efficient Airbus A320neo to offer a comfortable and cost-effective option for travelers.
Kolkata will act as a hub for one-stop connections from several Indian cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Jaipur, and Bhubaneswar, facilitating smoother travel to Shanghai.
Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, said the route strengthens air connectivity with China and creates opportunities for business and cultural exchange, noting Shanghai’s role as a major global financial center and gateway for trade and international travel.
Flights operate daily: depart Kolkata at 9:45 pm and arrive Shanghai at 4:40 am the next day; the return departs Shanghai at 5:40 am (all local times).
