Baku, Azerbaijan — India’s ambassador-designate to Azerbaijan, Abhay Kumar, joined a multicultural event organised by the Baku Malayalee Association (BMA) that combined celebrations of Vishu, Easter and Eid al-Fitr, highlighting communal harmony and cultural exchange.
Kumar posted about the gathering on X, expressing his pleasure at attending the Kaniyum Kaineettavum programme, and the Indian Embassy in Baku also affirmed its support for the BMA’s initiative. The ambassador congratulated the association on its Silver Jubilee and described the joint observance of the three festivals as an inspiring symbol of unity.
The event featured live cultural performances and concluded with a traditional Keralam feast, offering music, dance and cuisine that showcased the diversity of Indian culture. Organisers used the occasion to strengthen ties within the Indian community in Azerbaijan and with local and international residents.
Earlier in April, on April 19, the Indian Embassy hosted a major Indian Food Festival at its premises in Baku. The day-long festival presented an array of regional cuisines alongside cultural performances and a programme of diplomatic engagements.
The food festival drew ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps, senior Azerbaijani officials, members of parliament, business leaders, media representatives, the Indian community in Azerbaijan, local citizens and the international diaspora. It concluded with formal thanks and felicitations for the participating chefs and hotels, who were recognised for delivering authentic Indian flavours.
