New Delhi [India], December 4 (ANI): After nearly five months in detention in Yemen, Indian crew member Anilkumar Raveendran — who was aboard the Liberian-flagged, Greek-owned bulk carrier MV Eternity C attacked by Houthi rebels in July — has been released, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday.
The MEA said Raveendran had been held by the rebels since July 7, 2025, following the attack on the ship. He arrived in Muscat, Oman, on Wednesday and is expected to return to India soon.
The Government of India coordinated with multiple parties to secure his safe release and return. “Government of India welcomes the release of Indian crew member Mr Anilkumar Raveendran who was on the ship MV Eternity C and under detention in Yemen since 07 July 2025. He reached Muscat yesterday and is expected to travel back to India soon. Government of India had been coordinating efforts with various parties to ensure his safe release and return,” the MEA statement said.
India also expressed appreciation to the Sultanate of Oman for assisting in facilitating Raveendran’s release.
Houthi media reported that a total of ten crew members from the Eternity C, including Raveendran, were freed and flown from Sanaa, Yemen’s capital, to Oman, Gulf News cited Houthi-operated outlet Al-Masirah as saying. Oman reportedly facilitated the transfer, with the crew flown from Sanaa to Muscat.
The Greek-owned vessel Eternity C was reportedly struck by drones and rocket-propelled grenades launched by Houthi militants off the coast of Yemen in July.
The Indian Embassy in Yemen, in a post on X, said it was “a matter of great satisfaction” that Anilkumar Raveendran, detained since July 2025, had been released and reached Muscat and was on his way to India. (ANI)
