London, April 22 (ANI): Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan met his British counterpart, Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton, during an official visit to the United Kingdom, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to jointly addressing contemporary global challenges.
The visit emphasized strengthening bilateral ties and covered topics from global trade imbalances to emerging cyber threats. In a post on X, Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) said India and the UK reiterated their “shared resolve to collaboratively address contemporary challenges, from global trade imbalances to emerging cyber threats, while advancing a peaceful and prosperous #IndoPacific and harnessing accelerated technological transformation.”
The high-level engagement highlighted strategic convergence on modern warfare and economic stability. The visit aims to advance a peaceful and prosperous Indo-Pacific while leveraging rapid technological advances to bolster mutual security interests. HQ IDS added that the visit will strengthen #DefenceCooperation and strategic convergence, underscoring a shared commitment to #GlobalSecurity, stability and resilience.
General Chauhan also met leaders of the UK defence industry to boost bilateral cooperation in the sector. He stressed that increased economic synergy would enable more efficient defence manufacturing partnerships, technology sharing, and stronger supply chain resilience, and would promote “co-design, co-development and co-production of critical technologies.”
Earlier in the day, Chauhan laid a wreath at the Memorial Gates on Constitution Hill in a ceremony honoring fallen personnel. HQ IDS said the ceremony reflected shared military traditions and enduring values of remembrance, service and sacrifice, strengthening bonds between the two nations’ armed forces.
Chauhan held talks with the UK’s Minister of State for Indo-Pacific, Seema Malhotra, and chaired a roundtable of senior officials, academics, and think-tanks on “Indian military transformation—challenges and opportunity.” The visit began Monday with a Ceremonial Step Line and a reception by Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton.
The Indian High Commission in London said the leaders focused on expanding cooperation in cyber security, intelligence sharing, and joint military exercises to bolster global stability and resilience. Chauhan also met India’s High Commissioner Vikram K Doraiswami and is scheduled to visit the Royal College of Defence Studies to engage with international students.
This is the first official visit by an Indian Chief of Defence Staff to the United Kingdom and the fifth major military engagement between the two countries this year, following the UK Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Harv Smyth’s visit to India in March. (ANI)
