Kathmandu, May 11, 2026 — The foundation stone for Siddhanath Secondary School in Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-12, Kailali district, Sudurpaschim province, was laid on Monday for a school being constructed with Indian assistance.
The ceremony was led by Narayan Singh, First Secretary at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu. The school building is financed by the Government of India at approximately Nepali Rupees 36 million, and will be carried out as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) implemented through the Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City administration.
Local officials, including the Mayor of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City, welcomed the project and thanked the Government of India for the development support. They said the new infrastructure is expected to improve the learning environment for students and teachers in the area.
The Indian Embassy noted that HICDPs are part of India’s broader development cooperation with Nepal, aimed at supporting growth, strengthening public infrastructure and addressing priority sector needs across the country.
The school project comes amid ongoing close bilateral engagement between the two neighbours. On May 1, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri received outgoing Nepalese Ambassador to India Dr. Shankar Prasad Sharma for a farewell call in New Delhi. During the meeting, the officials reviewed the long-standing partnership and reaffirmed commitments to further strengthen multifaceted ties between the two countries.
Foreign Secretary Misri expressed appreciation for Ambassador Sharma’s contributions during his tenure. Dr. Sharma served as Nepal’s Ambassador to India from 2022 to 2024.
Nepal shares borders with five Indian states — Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand — and the two countries maintain deep-rooted cultural and people-to-people links. Nepal remains a priority partner under India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.
