Colombo [Sri Lanka], February 5 (ANI): Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat and Gujarat Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi held talks with Sri Lankan Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Hiniduma Sunil Senevi in Colombo. They discussed deepening cultural cooperation.
The High Commission of India in Sri Lanka posted on X that the Gujarat Governor and Deputy CM met the minister at Parliament and “exchanged views on deepening regional cultural cooperation and promoting shared Buddhist heritage.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for inaugurating the Exposition of the Holy Devnimori Relics at the Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo. Modi noted that during his April 2025 visit it was decided the relics would come to Sri Lanka to allow people to pay their respects, and he wrote that the nations are connected by deep civilisational and spiritual bonds, hoping Lord Buddha’s message of compassion, peace and harmony will guide humanity.
The initiative follows the commitment made during PM Modi’s April 2025 visit to bring the sacred relics from India for public veneration. President Dissanayake welcomed the Sacred Relics of the Buddha to Sri Lanka for public veneration until the 11th at Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple, and expressed appreciation to PM Modi and the Government of India for honoring their promise.
The holy relics arrived in Sri Lanka Wednesday morning for the first-ever international exposition. A high-level Indian delegation, led by Governor Acharya Devvrat and Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, personally carried the relics to the aircraft for departure from India. (ANI)
