A blaze at the Arghavan shopping centre near Tehran killed eight people and injured 36, Iranian state television reported. The fire broke out Tuesday in the multistory mall in Andisheh town, in Tehran province. Authorities have not determined the cause and state broadcaster IRIB said an investigation is underway.
Television footage showed firefighters fighting heavy flames as thick black smoke poured from the building while rescue teams treated and evacuated the wounded. Officials did not link the incident to regional hostilities; a fragile ceasefire with the United States has been in place for about three weeks.
