Gayaji (Bihar), May 5 (ANI) — Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary warmly received Vietnam President To Lam on Tuesday as the visiting head of state arrived in Gayaji to start a three-day state visit to India.
Choudhary, posting on X, welcomed To Lam to Gayaji — describing the town as rich in spirituality, culture and heritage — and said the visit would deepen ties between India and Vietnam and lift bilateral relations to a higher level.
To Lam, who also serves as General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, is scheduled to remain in India through May 7. This is his first trip to India following his election as president earlier this month.
According to the official program, a ceremonial reception will be held at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 6, after which President To Lam will hold high-level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The discussions are expected to cover the full range of bilateral cooperation and address regional and global issues of shared interest. President Droupadi Murmu will also meet the visiting dignitary, and several senior Indian leaders are slated to call on him.
The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that President To Lam’s itinerary includes visits to Bodh Gaya and Mumbai. The MEA said these engagements aim to inject fresh momentum into the robust relationship and to create new opportunities for collaboration between the two countries.
The trip follows Prime Minister Modi’s April 7 message congratulating To Lam on his election and expressing a desire to further deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Vietnam. Officials note that the visit coincides with the 10th anniversary of the elevation of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, a status established during Prime Minister Modi’s 2016 visit to Vietnam.
