Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman will undertake an official visit to China from May 5 to 7 at the invitation of Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi, China’s ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, announced on X. Xu said China places high importance on its relationship with Bangladesh and aims to work with the new Bangladeshi government to build political trust, broaden exchanges and cooperation across sectors, advance high-quality Belt and Road projects, and deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.
The trip follows recent Chinese statements characterizing Bangladesh and China as traditional friendly neighbors and comprehensive strategic partners. Chinese officials have noted that diplomatic ties established more than 50 years ago have grown steadily on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence—mutual respect and equality—and have delivered tangible benefits to both peoples. Beijing said it views the visit as an opportunity to expand political trust and strengthen cooperation with Bangladesh’s new administration.
