New Delhi, May 13 — A high-level Chilean delegation led by Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna is visiting India from May 9–15 to deepen economic and commercial ties between the two countries, the Commerce and Industry Ministry said.
During the visit, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal held discussions with Pérez Mackenna focused on expanding bilateral trade and investment and enhancing cooperation across priority sectors. Both sides highlighted steady growth in India–Chile economic relations and reiterated their commitment to further business-to-business engagement.
A central topic of the meetings was the ongoing negotiation of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Officials from both sides said CEPA would be key to unlocking the full potential of the bilateral economic relationship and expressed a shared objective to work toward its early conclusion.
Commerce Secretary also met separately with Paula Estévez, Chile’s Vice-Minister of International Economic Relations (SUBREI). That meeting covered modalities for an early CEPA conclusion and a range of issues including trade facilitation, market access, investment promotion, and strengthening institutional economic links between India and Chile.
An India–Chile Business Roundtable in New Delhi brought together leading business representatives and industry stakeholders from both countries. The roundtable provided a platform to explore collaboration opportunities in sectors such as critical minerals, renewable energy, agri-business, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, digital services, logistics, and advanced manufacturing.
Both governments underlined the complementarities between their economies and stressed the importance of resilient supply chains, sustainable development, and greater private-sector participation in advancing bilateral economic cooperation.
Foreign Minister Pérez Mackenna noted on social media that he held productive meetings with India’s commerce leadership and participated in a roundtable with Indian and Chilean business leaders to promote trade and investment.
India and Chile share longstanding, warm relations based on mutual trust and democratic values. Officials said the visit has reinforced momentum in bilateral ties and reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to building a stronger, future-oriented economic partnership. (ANI)
