Madrid — World Health Organization Director‑General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Tuesday there is currently no sign that a larger hantavirus outbreak is underway, though he did not rule out the appearance of additional cases.
“At the moment, there is no sign that we are seeing the start of a larger outbreak, but of course the situation could change and, given the long incubation period of the virus, it’s possible we might see more cases in the coming weeks,” Tedros told reporters.
He made the remarks during a joint press conference with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez at the Moncloa Palace in Madrid. The comment came amid continued monitoring of recent hantavirus cases and follows routine public‑health surveillance. (Reuters)
