Riyadh, May 11, 2026 — Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan received a phone call from Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Monday. The ministers discussed recent mediation efforts and ongoing diplomatic talks between Iran and the United States, exchanging views on the evolving situation in the region.
The Saudi foreign ministry shared details of the call on its social channels.
The conversation comes amid heightened diplomatic activity in West Asia. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said the United States continues to make “unreasonable demands” and described Tehran’s response to the U.S. proposal — which Iran passed to Pakistan on Sunday — as “not excessive.” (Iranian statement)
According to Al Jazeera, U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Iran’s reply to Washington’s peace proposal as “totally unacceptable.” Earlier, on May 8, Trump commented on Iran’s military capabilities and said he had no reaction to the presence of a French aircraft carrier. He also said an investigation was underway into a missile strike on a girls’ school in Minab, Iran: “The missile hitting a girls’ school in Iran is under study right now, and we’ll give you a report as soon as we have it,” he said.
Trump additionally addressed “Project Freedom,” saying he had halted it and might resume a revised version he called “Project Freedom Plus.” He noted Pakistan had asked the U.S. not to proceed and said alternative options were being considered. (ANI/Al Jazeera)
