Balochistan, Pakistan — May 8, 2026: The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has condemned what it describes as the custodial killing of a young Baloch labourer, accusing Pakistani authorities of continuing a systematic campaign of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan.
According to the BYC, the man identified as Ajmal — a resident of Nasirabad in Turbat district’s Kech area — was forcibly disappeared from Gwadar on August 21, 2025. The committee said Ajmal came from a poor family and worked as a daily wage labourer, supporting his relatives as the sole breadwinner.
Ajmal’s family endured 256 days of uncertainty, the BYC said, holding out hope for his return. Their hopes were dashed when his body was reportedly recovered, prompting outrage from Baloch activists and human rights advocates.
The BYC called the incident a grave violation of human rights and human dignity, saying that killing someone without trial and returning the body to the family reflects a deepening climate of repression in the province. The group asked how many more families must wait in fear while loved ones never come back.
Urging international attention, the BYC appealed to global human rights organisations to take immediate notice of what it described as a worsening human rights crisis in Balochistan and demanded justice and accountability for the victim and his family.
The committee’s statement highlighted an ongoing pattern in the region: some disappeared people are later released, while others remain detained for long periods or are reportedly killed. These practices, the BYC said, have increased insecurity and distrust among local communities and undermined efforts to restore peace, rule of law, and confidence in state institutions.
