Berlin [Germany], April 22 (ANI): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday met his German counterpart, Boris Pistorius, in Berlin during a three-day official visit to Germany, where he received a ceremonial welcome and took part in a wreath-laying ceremony.
Singh, visiting Germany from April 21 to 23, was accorded military honours at a reception hosted by Pistorius at the German Ministry of Defence, marking the formal start of his engagements after meeting the Indian diaspora and addressing the German Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence and Security.
The visit aims to further strengthen the strategic defence partnership between India and Germany, with discussions expected to focus on defence industrial cooperation, emerging technologies, and enhanced military collaboration.
On Tuesday, Singh addressed the Indian community in Berlin, describing the diaspora as a “living bridge” between the two nations and praising its contributions to Germany’s development. He highlighted India’s rapid progress in infrastructure, startups, space, and digital innovation.
Singh underlined India’s balanced diplomatic stance under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, especially on global conflicts including the situation in West Asia. He said India has appealed to both sides to end the war and indicated that India remains open to playing a larger role in peace efforts when the time is right.
He also emphasised India’s diplomatic efforts to ensure maritime stability, noting these measures have enabled multiple Indian vessels to safely transit the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking to the German Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence and Security, Singh reiterated India’s concerns over energy security, warning that any disruption in the Strait of Hormuz would have direct consequences for India’s economy and stability. For a developing nation reliant on the West Asian region for energy, such disruptions are immediate challenges affecting national security and economic interests, according to a Ministry of Defence statement.
